MURAT BAYİZİT: TURKISH FROZEN FOOD INDUSTRY HAS MADE A SIGNIFICANT PROGRESS

Murat Bayizit, Chairperson of the Turkish Frozen Food Industry Association, said that the sector, which has made a significant progress in production with the development of organic agriculture, has opened up to new markets, especially in South America and the Far East.

Bayizit, who is also the Chairperson of the Foreign Trade Council of the Bursa Province Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BTSO), stated that Turkey has become a very popular agricultural country during the new type of coronavirus (Covid-19) epidemic.

Expressing that it was a constructive period in terms of agriculture, Bayizit said, “Countries such as Italy, Poland and Germany, which are prominent in agriculture in the European region, had serious problems in their production as the pandemic coincided with the harvest period. Subsequently, Turkey took a good position and spent this period with less losses. There was no food shortage or stock problem in our markets.”

Pointing to the importance of frozen food, Bayizit noted that the freezing process provides a very serious added value to the product. Explaining this with an example, Bayizit added, “You can bring 5 liras of strawberries grown in the mountains to the factory, after cleaning and freezing, you then turn them into a product for 1.5-2 euros. When you freeze-dry this crop, it becomes a product of 30 dollars a kilogram.”

Bayizit also noted that it is extremely pleasing that food freezing and drying technology exists and develops in Turkey.
