“Licensed Warehousing in Türkiye and the World (1)”

Organised for the second time this year by the Licensed Warehouse Companies Association (LİDAŞDER), ‘Licensed Warehousing in Türkiye and the World, Grain Markets Congress’ was held in Antalya between 16-19 December.

Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı, who attended the congress, stated that they aim to ramp up the product obtained from the unit area with production planning and said, “Our aim is to increase the production of cereal products by 13 percent at the end of 3 years, that is, in 2028.”

Emphasising that cereals are the cornerstone of food supply security, Yumaklı stated that the process from production to storage and marketing of these products is extremely important.

Underlining that storing the products is as important as producing them, Yumaklı noted, “Türkiye is proud to be one of the countries that implement the best storage in the world with the investments of the Turkish Grain Board (TMO) and the private sector.”

Emphasising that 234 companies are engaged in licensed warehousing, Yumaklı added, “We have approximately 12.2 million tonnes capacity. God willing, let’s produce much more.”

‘IT IS POSSIBLE TO PREVENT LOSSES UP TO APPROXIMATELY 2 MILLION TONNES’

Reminding that it is possible to prevent storage losses between 10 percent and 30 percent with licensed warehousing, Yumaklı concluded:

“It is possible to prevent the loss of up to 2 million tonnes within one year of storage. The numerical equivalent of this corresponds to approximately 23 billion liras. We also see that the investments to be made offer a view of how and to what extent the country’s resources are protected. I would like to say that the Commodity Exchange (TÜRİB) also has a very important place in increasing the licensed warehousing capacity. With the launch of TÜRİB, an important step was taken towards becoming an international base. Producers registered in the Farmer Registration System (ÇKS) obtain an electronic warehouse receipt when they deliver the products. Our stakeholders who have these can use zero-interest or profit-sharing business loans or financing with an upper limit of 15 million liras from Ziraat Bank and Ziraat Participation. In 2024, 462 million liras worth of treasury-backed loans were provided to 312 people. For the 2014-2024 period, 131 licensed warehouses and 200 thousand producers have been supported with 590 million liras.”
