Türkiye’s central Anatolian province of Konya aims to preserve the region’s rich cuisine for the future with 87 geographically indicated food products. KOGAT President Ali Ülkü emphasized the importance of this initiative, emphasizing that Konya is home to a diverse range of culinary cultures.

The aim is to enhance the number of 87 geographically indicated products in Konya, most of which are food-based and to preserve the region’s existing culture for the future.
Konya Gastronomy, Chefs and Tourism Association (KOGAT) President Ali Ülkü told an Anadolu Agency (AA) reporter that Konya is an ancient city that has hosted many civilizations, which is why it has a rich cuisine.
Ülkü explained that Konya’s diverse culinary cultures, including Seljuk and Mevlevi cuisines, come together, adding that this adds a distinct diversity to the city.

Ülkü emphasized that the majority of prominent geographical indication products consist of dishes and food products, adding:
“Our Minister of Culture and Tourism, in particular, attaches particular importance to this issue. With the support of the Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor, we have now reached second place in Türkiye in terms of geographical product count. Our hope is to be first. We are progressing on this path. As an association, we aim to incorporate products from our chefs’ recipes, our grandmothers’ and grandfathers’ recipes into our menus, ensuring that everyone from abroad can enjoy these products, and ensuring that everyone knows about Konya’s cuisine and culture.”
