In Taşköprü district of Kastamonu (a province of Western Black Sea region), the harvest of Taşköprü garlic, registered by the European Union, continues. Garlic, which has started to take its place on the stalls, is sold between 40 and 130 liras depending on its size.
The harvest of the world-famous Taşköprü garlic, registered by the European Union (EU) and the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office, has started in Taşköprü district of Kastamonu. Intensive work is being spent to collect Taşköprü garlic, which is famous in the world with its flavour and selenium content, from the fields. Taşköprü garlic, which is the livelihood of 5 thousand families in Kastamonu province, was grown on 24 thousand decares this year. Kastamonu Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry organised a harvest event for Taşköprü garlic.
“The best one is currently around 120-130 lira”
Stating that Taşköprü garlic is sold between 120 and 130 liras, Taşköprü Garlic Producers’ Association President Abdullah Eligüzeloğlu said, “Taşköprü garlic is planted in March and harvested in July. It is stored for 10 months under natural conditions. It is the garlic with the longest shelf life. There is no Taşköprü garlic in the market in May and June. We expect a bountiful harvest again this year. Our garlic stands out with its quality.”
“We expect around 25 thousand tonnes of garlic this year. At the moment, the best one is around 120-130 liras and the smallest one is around 40 liras. This price is normal at the moment, but it may change,” he added…
