Hasan Osman Sabır, Chair of the Black Sea Hazelnut and Products Exporters’ Association (KFMIB), who made evaluations on the subject, pointed out that although there has been an increase in exports on a quantity basis in recent years, the share of the increase in world consumption has decreased.
“In 2024, a total of 323 thousand 244 tonnes of hazelnuts were exported and 2 billion 640 million dollars of foreign currency income was obtained in return for this export. Our exports of hazelnuts and products surged by 14 percent in quantity and 41 percent in value compared to 2023. In 2025, we aim to ensure the continuation of the upward trend in our exports,” said Sabır.
Reminding that Türkiye’s share in world hazelnut production was 80-82 percent in the 90s, Sabır added, “Unfortunately, our share has declined to 60-65 percent in recent years. If necessary measures are not taken, this market loss in exports may also grow. Despite the potential increase in world consumption, we fear that our share in exports will further decrease with the production of this need by rival countries. We need to pay attention to the aggressive growth in Chile and the USA, especially in production.”
