Grain production expected to be 2 billion 368 million tonnes in 2025/26 season…

The International Grains Council predicts that world grain production will surge by 62 million tonnes to 2 billion 368 million tonnes in the 2025/2026 season. While a decline is expected in corn, wheat and soya production is expected to rise. Global consumption is also expected to rise.

According to the International Grains Council (IGC), world grain production is expected to increase by 62 million tonnes to 2 billion 368 million tonnes in the 2025/2026 season.

According to the IGC’s March report, world cereal production is expected to decline by only 4 million tonnes to 2 billion 306 million tonnes in the June 2024 / July 2025 period compared to last season.

IGC forecasts that world cereal consumption will soar by 13 million tonnes to 2 billion 336 million tonnes, while global stocks will decrease by 30 million tonnes to 577 million tonnes.

The decrease in global production is due to the high rate of decline in maize. World maize production is expected to fall to 1 billion 217 million tonnes this season, down 14 million tonnes from last season. This high decline in maize is offset by 4 million tonnes of wheat and 22 million tonnes of soybean.

The Council also shared its production and consumption forecasts for the next season. In the 2025/2026 season, world cereal production is expected to increase by 62 million tonnes to 2 billion 368 million tonnes.

According to next season’s forecasts, despite an increase of 8 million tonnes in wheat, the expectation that maize will reach 1 billion 269 tonnes with an increase of 52 million tonnes carries the world production upwards.

Although a spike is expected, the increase in demand in world consumption continues. World maize consumption is expected to increase by 25 million tonnes to 1 billion 263 million tonnes, wheat consumption by 6 million tonnes to 813 million tonnes and soybean demand by 17 million tonnes to 426 million tonnes.

In this framework, global cereal consumption is projected to boost by 33 million tonnes to 2 billion 367 million tonnes next season, and this 1 million tonne difference between production and consumption keeps stocks in balance from year to year…
