In Sarıgöl district of Manisa province, planting of ‘Autumn King’ grape variety resistant to cold weather is increasing rapidly. This seedless and large-grained variety is not affected by frost events thanks to its late ripening.
In Sarıgöl district of Manisa, the planting of the ‘Autumn King’ grape species, which stands out with its resistance to cold weather and frost events, is rapidly spreading. It was learnt that the late-ripening, large-grained and seedless grape species came from California, USA.

Sarıgöl grape producer Fatih Akın emphasised that Autumn King grape type is not affected by cold and offers economic advantages and said, “This grape variety has all the features that a commercial grape should have. It offers a pleasure of eating with durability, high yield, flashy large grains.”
Stating that the most important feature of the grape is that it wakes up late, Akın explained, “In Manisa region, other grape species started to wake up 20-25 days ago and frost damage occurred in many neighbourhoods on 22-23 March. However, Autumn King was not affected by frost because it had not yet woken up on those dates. This feature provides protection from spring frosts, which occur at the end of March in the Aegean Region and at the end of April in the Central Anatolia Region. Thus, your labour does not disappear in an instant.”
