Fevzi Çondur: We need a stronger collaboration between industrialists and producers in cotton sector

The 7th National Cotton Summit, held in Aegean province of Aydın, focused on enhancing the competitiveness of Turkish cotton in the global market and exploring sustainable production strategies. The event, organized by the Aydın Commodity Exchange and the National Cotton Council (UPK), gathered industry representatives and industrialists to address the challenges faced in cotton production and propose solutions.

Fevzi Çondur, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Cotton Council, emphasized the importance of increasing the quality of Turkish cotton production and enhancing competitiveness in world markets. He highlighted the need to reduce production costs, establish robust support mechanisms and adopt climate-friendly production models

Highlighting that the significance of ramping up cotton production to strengthen the Turkish textile industry’s position in the global market, Çondur called for stronger collaboration between industrialists and producers.

Ihsan Emiralioğlu, Deputy Director General for Plant Production at the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, stated during the summit that Türkiye is one of the few countries producing non-GMO cotton. This is an important advantage in a market where demand for sustainable and environmentally friendly products is surging. Emiralioğlu also stressed the need for government support in further developing the cotton sector and ensuring its sustainability.

Other topics discussed at the summit included the importance of research and development in the cotton industry, the role of technology in improving productivity, and the necessity of educating and training farmers about sustainable farming practices. The summit provided a platform for industry stakeholders to share their experiences and propose innovative ideas to overcome the challenges in the cotton sector.
