Press release…
June 2026…
Emre Uygun, Chair of the Aegean Olive and Olive Oil Exporters’ Association (EZZİB), in his written statement, provided information on olive and olive oil export figures. “According to our finalised seasonal data as of 31 May 2026, our total sector exports stood at 260 million dollars. When compared with the same period last season, we see that our total export revenue has fallen by approximately 34 percent, due to the cumulative effect of the decline in global prices and administrative measures targeting the domestic market. During this period, whilst our table olive exports maintained their strong performance at 172.5 million dollars, our olive oil exports fell to 69 million dollars – a 62 percent drop in value terms – facing a significant contraction in both volume and value,” Uygun said.

“Value-added and packaged exports are, of course, always our ultimate goal; however, these figures have once again clearly demonstrated that, in order to compete with our global rivals, we must manage the balance between bulk and packaged products not through bans, but through predictable policies that allow free market conditions to operate,” Uygun noted.
Access to finance must be facilitated…
Emphasising that the most urgent request received from members of the Aegean Olive and Olive Oil Exporters’ Association (EZZİB) is for easier access to finance, Uygun added, “Our fundamental expectation is the strengthening of support mechanisms that will help our companies, which face high costs in production and export processes, to alleviate their financial burden, enable them to maintain their competitive strength and the continued expansion of vital measures such as foreign exchange conversion support are our most fundamental expectations. The relaxation and optimisation of these instruments—which will give our exporters some breathing space—in line with sectoral needs will make a very significant contribution both to safeguarding our production capacity and to our country’s foreign exchange supply.”

260 million dollars is a huge number for olive oil exports. What do you think drives that level of demand?
