Veysel Memiş: Sustainability is an integral part of Tat Food’s corporate strategy

Veysel Memiş, Chairman of the Board of Directors at Tat Food (Tat Gıda), shared the concrete applications and scalable solutions they have developed in the food industry through his comprehensive assessment at the panel titled ‘Transformation in Turkish Agriculture: Policies, Sustainable Agriculture and Technology’.

Emphasising that Tat Food, which has been creating value for 58 years, treats sustainability not merely as a slogan but as an integral part of its corporate strategy, Veysel Memiş said, “It is extremely valuable for us to be discussing the sustainability of food here today. We believe this transformation is only possible with a strong structure and broad stakeholder participation.”

Veysel Memiş stated that Tat Food has reached a daily tomato processing capacity of 11,150 tonnes at its facilities in Bursa Mustafakemalpaşa, Karacabey and İzmir Torbalı, adding that the company is the leader in this field in Türkiye, ranks fifth in Europe and twelfth in the world. Veysel Memiş underlined that they are undergoing a transformation centred on digital agriculture technologies in line with the net zero target for 2050, noting that sustainability management is structured in accordance with international standards.

Pointing out Tat Food has been a member of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) since 2023 and that it has been included in the BIST Sustainability Index since 2016, Veysel Memiş explained, “With the data announced this year, we have risen to 26th place among 493 food companies worldwide with a score of 81/100. We have also received the ‘committed’ badge in the Ecovadis rating and that they report our sustainability performance transparently within the scope of the Turkish Sustainability Reporting Standards.”

Production is carried out on more than 24,000 decares under contract farming…

Recalling that they were the first company to implement the contract farming model in the country and indicated that they have been continuously pursuing this model since 1967, Veysel Memiş highlighted, “In 2025, production was carried out on an area of over 24,000 decares under contract farming, providing farmers with 174 million TL in kind and cash advance support, strengthening producers with seedling and fertiliser support.”

“Digitalisation is one of the fundamental elements of this model and the updated Tat Mobile Application ensures full traceability from the field to the factory and that farmers can track their shipments in real time on a vehicle basis with the weighing-based extract system, which is a first in the sector. Moreover, the new version of the application has increased the number of users by 19 percent,” he concluded…
