Dr. Vahit Kirişci, Chairman of the TBMM Commission on Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Affairs and AK Party Kahramanmaraş Deputy Vahit Kirişci, regarding the decision of the ministry to lease agricultural lands that are not processed for 2 consecutive years, said, “Our population is increasing, the number of tourists coming to our country is increasing, our welfare level is increasing and we have to produce more food as a country. Does an empty field benefit us? No. The product to be obtained from here by utilising the idle lands in production will enhance our supply security.”

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has prepared a regulation for the seasonal leasing of agricultural lands owned by real or legal persons and not cultivated for 2 consecutive years, provided that the nature of the land is not changed and used in agricultural production. The regulation was published in the Official Gazette on 22 August and entered into force. Dr. Vahit Kirişci, Chairman of the TBMM Commission on Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Affairs, made an assessment on the regulation.

Emphasising that the country’s population is increasing, Dr. Kirişci added, “The number of tourists coming to our country is increasing, our welfare level is rising and as a country, we have to produce more food, we have to further develop and strengthen our food supply security. Does an unused field benefit us? No. The crop to be obtained from the utilisation of uncultivated lands in production will enhnace our security of supply. It is not important whether the demand side surges or stays in place, but we need to be taking these steps on the supply side.”
