80 MILLION BRANCHES FLOWER EXPORT TARGET FOR WOMEN’S DAY…

Antalya, which makes intensive shipments to the European market in flower exports, stands out as one of the most important centres in the country’s cut flower production. Farmers plan production months in advance in order to meet the increasing demand on special occasions.

‘RED CARNATION IS THE MOST PREFERRED FLOWER’

Lütfi Göbüş, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Turkish Flower Group (TFG), said in a statement that a feverish work was carried out before Women’s Day. “We are currently in a period of intense sales and shipments. Exports to Europe continue intensively. Demand for certain colours of flowers increases on special occasions. Especially red carnation is the most preferred flower. However, other types and colours of carnations are also sent. Since the shipments continue, it is difficult to determine the exact figures at the moment, but it is estimated that around 80 million branches of flowers will be exported. The financial value of this export will be between 9-10 million dollars,” Göbüş said.

LOGISTIC ADVANTAGE OF ANTALYA…

Antalya region is the centre of Türkiye in the production and export of cut flowers; 90 percent of the ornamental plants produced in Antalya are exported.

While the Netherlands and the UK are among the biggest buyer countries, distribution is also made to other European countries through these countries. Thanks to its proximity to the European market, flowers can be delivered by land within 4-5 days, which gives Türkiye an advantage over distant rival producer countries such as Kenya and Colombia.

Göbüş underlined that despite this, they face some difficulties in logistics and that there are delays at the Kapıkule Border Gate from time to time, but that the proximity to Europe makes it easier to overcome such problems…
