Press release…
The 9-month exports of the region in the field of cereals, pulses, oil seeds and products, which is the most exporting sector of Southeastern Anatolia, was 2.5 billion dollars. Türkiye’s total exports of pasta worth 720 million dollars, 64.4 percent of the country’s total exports of pasta worth 720 million dollars and 55.8 percent of sunflower oil exports worth 678 million dollars were made from the Southeastern region of Türkiye. The region, whose sectoral exports decreased by 15.5 percent on quantity basis to 3.3 million tonnes, approached last year on value basis thanks to the 13.1 percent increase in export unit prices. The share of Iraq, where exports soared by 2.5 percent, reached 33.9 percent in this period.

“Price per tonne in sunflower oil exports is 1,270 dollars”
Celal Kadooğlu, Chair of the Southeastern Anatolia Cereals, Pulses, Oil Seeds and Products Exporters’ Association, stated that the fall in exports in terms of quantity was due to the decline in flour exports due to wheat, which has import restrictions and made the following evaluations regarding sunflower oil, one of the largest export items:
“As the world’s largest exporter of refined sunflower oil, we have been adversely affected by the recent price decline in international markets. As a result of the problems in agricultural production due to global climate conditions, it was inevitable that sunflower seed and crude oil prices would increase and these costs would be reflected on our sunflower oil export prices. Our export unit prices, which hovered around 1,180 dollars per tonne in the first period of the year, rose by nearly 7 percent to 1,270 dollars in the third quarter. Considering that average prices were above 1,400 dollars at this time last year, these levels do not yet provide the desired profitability. In this period of rising domestic raw material prices, our refined oil exporters are ready to leave 2024 behind, for better or worse, and are waiting for the import permit within the scope of the tariff quota to be issued at the beginning of the year.”

“Sunflower oil exports surged by 21 percent in quantity”
Pointing out that while Türkiye’s total sunflower oil exports decreased by 7.5 percent in the first 9 months compared to last year, Kadooğlu noted, “It surged by nearly 4 percent in Southeastern Anatolia. Last year at this time, the share of our region in the country’s total sunflower oil exports was 49.7 percent. The fact that our share in the country exceeded 55 percent with exports of 378.9 million dollars this year is an indicator of our surging weight in sunflower oil foreign trade.”
“The demand for vegetable oil, especially in the Middle East and African markets, provides us with new market opportunities. Our trade volume in these regions is constantly expanding with new connections. Considering that our sunflower oil exports increased by 21 percent in terms of quantity this year, the opportunities brought by the prices approaching the levels of the past period in terms of our foreign trade revenues can be understood more clearly,” Kadooğlu added…
