British people prefer Turkish raisin cake for afternoon tea…

Exports of Sultana raisins, one of Türkiye’s leading export products in food products, soared by 29 per cent on a foreign currency basis in the 2023/24 season.

In the 2023/24 seedless raisin export season, which started on 1 September 2023, Türkiye exported the highest amount of raisins to the UK with an amount of 76 million dollars in the 7-month period until 7 April 2024. While Türkiye achieved a 22 percent spike in raisin exports to the UK, the British continued to prefer Turkish raisin cakes in their classic five teas.

The Netherlands ranked second in seedless raisin exports. Türkiye, which exported 33.6 million dollars worth of raisins to the Netherlands in the 2022/23 season, ramped up its exports to the Netherlands by 33 per cent to 44 million dollars in the same period of the 2023/24 season.

Türkiye exported 34.5 million dollars worth of raisins to Germany, its number one export market, followed by Italy with 26.7 million dollars.

European Union member countries demanded 174 million dollars worth of seedless raisins from Türkiye. The EU had a 52 per cent share in the country’s raisin exports.

Record export growth in Australia, Japan and Canada

Sultana raisin exports from Türkiye to Australia rose by 99 per cent from 9.4 million to 18.8 million dollars, while raisin exports to Japan rose by 72 per cent from 9.7 million to 17.2 million dollars.

The country, which exported 9 million dollars worth of sultanas to Canada between 1 September 2022 and 7 April 2023, boosted its raisin exports to Canada to 13.4 million dollars with an increase of 49 percent in the same period of the 2023/24 season.

Exports to China, where the Turkish dried fruit sector has carried out important promotional activities in recent years, decreased from 2.8 million to 1.3 million dollars with a loss of 52 per cent…
