“When these data are multiplied by the world population, it means that 100 KG of wheat is produced per person per year in the world. On the other hand, our country, with a population of 85 million, produces approximately 250 KG of wheat per capita with a yield of 21.5 million tonnes per year. The strength of our country in wheat production is directly reflected in the performance of our cereals, pulses and oilseeds sector in its field of activity,” he said.

Pointing out that according to 2023 data, annual wheat flour and pasta exports total 5 million tonnes, he explained, “Türkiye, which exported 3.5 million tonnes of wheat flour to 164 countries last year, has been the world export champion in this field since 2015. Another feature of our sector, which includes this strategic product in its field of activity, is that it covers value-added products such as biscuits and cakes, cocoa products, oil seeds and spices, with average unit prices ranging from 2 to 4 dollars per kg.”

‘We are a country that does not have foreign trade deficit in cereals’

He underlined that another feature of Türkiye, which ranks first in Europe in terms of agricultural output, is that it does not have a foreign trade deficit in the field of cereals, pulses, oilseeds and products.

“According to 2023 data, the country exported more than 1.5 million tonnes of biscuits and pastry, nearly 1.5 million tonnes of vegetable oil, more than 1 million tonnes of sugar and sugar and products, nearly 1 million tonnes of cocoa products and earned nearly 12.5 billion dollars a year from the total foreign trade of our sector,” he added.

“According to TURKSTAT’s calculations, Türkiye’s total imports and total exports are at similar levels in the chapters defined as cereals, milling products, malt, starch, inulin, oil seeds and fruits, various grains, seeds and fruits, straw and roughage, sugar and sugar products, cocoa and cocoa preparations, various edible food preparations, roughage prepared for animals. In short, Türkiye is proud of being a country that does not have a foreign trade deficit in this field while producing special solutions for the food needs of segments with different cultures and different purchasing power from different geographies of the world,” he concluded…
