“Wheat flour exports fell by 100 million dollars”

Ahmet Tiryakioğlu, Chairman of Turkish Exporters’ Assembly (TIM) Cereals, Pulses, Oil Seeds and Products Sector Board, evaluating the impact of the decline in global prices on export revenues in wheat flour and pasta, which are the top two exports of the sector, said that they expected the spike in wheat supply and stocks in the world to pull prices down.

“The remaining part of the year was in line with our forecasts and we experienced an export revenue loss of nearly 100 million dollars as a country due to the decline in wheat flour exports compared to last year. In this loss, as well as the falling prices in the world, with the effect of the wheat import ban that will last until 15 October, the pressure on our exports due to the inability of domestic wheat prices to compete with low wheat prices in international markets has an impact on our exports,” he said.

“As the world’s largest wheat flour exporter, we closely follow the expectations of enterprises that buy raw materials from abroad and exchange information with all public institutions, especially Turkish Grain Board (TMO), on the most appropriate solutions for the country’s interests. We hope that the next process will develop in a way that will satisfy both domestic producers and exporters,” he added…
