Rose oil waste is recycled into the economy!

In the Edremit district of Balıkesir province, waste generated after rose oil production is being recycled and reintroduced to the economy.

Roses are grown extensively in Türkiye, Bulgaria, and Iran. While Türkiye alone produces more than the other two countries combined, it has been stated that the waste generated after rose oil extraction has been considered harmful until now. Faruk Durukan, owner of an R&D company, stated that as part of the project, they processed 100 tonnes of rose waste this year into an extract and added it to the economy.

Durukan emphasized that rose extract has been particularly prominent in scientific publications for the treatment of colon cancer, that it contains the most effective active ingredients for skin in the cosmetics industry and that it contributes to reducing pesticide use in agriculture and combating drought.

“This work couldn’t have been done in Germany or America. We have the active ingredients. Our job is to utilize the raw materials we have in our country for the economy. May it be beneficial for the world,” Durukan added…
