Western Mediterranean Exporters’ Associations (BAIB) Chairperson Ümit Mirza Çavuşoğlu stated that Türkiye has an important share in tomato production across the world.
Stating that more overseas sales can be made from Türkiye, Çavuşoğlu said, “Our region meets almost 50 percent of the country’s exports. A large part of tomato production in Türkiye is in Antalya province. This situation is pleasing, but we still have a long way to go. We can exceed billion dollars in exports. Because we have 20 percent surplus in tomato production throughout the country.”
Indicating that they send tomatoes to 52 countries across the world and 41 countries as BAIB, Çavuşoğlu noted, “Romania, Ukraine, Bulgaria and Russia are in the first place with high figures among the countries we export both in Türkiye and in the region.”
Market diversified in tomato…
Pointing out that Russia, which once had a significant share in tomato exports, has fallen to fourth place in recent years, Çavuşoğlu informed that this situation is due to the increase in Russia’s own production and the diversification of the market.
Explaining that exports to Romania, Ukraine and Bulgaria have increased with the work carried out in alternative markets and that these countries have taken the first three places, Çavuşoğlu added, “Tomato sales of approximately 70 million dollars to Romania, approximately 52 million dollars to Ukraine and 36 million 144 thousand dollars to Bulgaria were made from the country in 10 months.”
Highlighting that as of the end of October this year, approximately 36 million dollars worth of tomato sales were made to Russia and approximately 11 million dollars of this was realised through BAIB, Çavuşoğlu concluded, “Poland and Germany have also become one of the important markets and over 18 million dollars worth of exports were made to both countries.”
