Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı said that in the 2023-2024 campaign period, 9 million 60 thousand tonnes of beet was processed and 1 million 161 thousand 100 tonnes of sugar was produced.
“As by-products, 418 thousand 800 tonnes of molasses and 2 million 905 thousand 709 tonnes of fresh beet pulp were obtained,” Yumaklı said.
Yumaklı also stated in his statement that Türkşeker, which is the largest sugar company in the sector with a 37 percent share, has reached the peak of the last 25 years in both beet and sugar production with 14 sugar factories operating in the 2023-2024 campaign period.
“Türkşeker, which has successfully spent the longest campaign period since 1998 with an average production period of 155 days, has achieved a historical record. Türkşeker, which stands by the producers who make their living from beet agriculture at every stage of production from beet planting to dismantling, paid 21 billion TL to 40 thousand 132 producers in the 2023-2024 period,” Yumaklı explained.
Pointing to sugar beet production, Minister Yumaklı added, “Our sugar beet production is one of the best examples of the contracted production model and is one of the leading sectors. I would like to thank all sector stakeholders and Türkşeker personnel, especially our producers, who contributed to this historical success.”
