TURKISH FISHERMEN FISHING IN THE OCEANS!

Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı stated that they aim to ramp up the export of fishery products to 2 billion dollars by the end of the year and said, “Turkish fishermen catch approximately 1 million tonnes of fish in international waters and oceans, which is at least 3 times the amount of fish caught in the country’s waters.”

Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı made a statement on the occasion of 21 November World Fisheries Day and wished ‘get well soon’ to the fishermen affected by the storm and downpour that badly affected the country at the weekend.

Indicating that they will continue to support the fishing sector while protecting aquatic assets in the seas within the framework of sustainability principles, Yumaklı explained, “In the last 20 years, we have provided 17.86 billion liras of SCT-discounted fuel support, 12.63 billion liras of aquaculture support, 341.89 million liras of small-scale fishing support to fishermen, a total of 30.832 billion liras were paid in this context.”

Underlining that the continuity of fishing is possible with the sustainable use of resources, Yumaklı noted, “In the protection and use of our seas and inland waters, it is firstly the responsibility of our fishermen, then it is our responsibility to follow this effectively and to make the necessary arrangements.”

“Türkiye’s exports of aquaculture products reached 1.7 billion dollars in 2022 and we expect the exports of aquaculture products to approach 2 billion dollars by the end of 2023,” he added.

“Fishing is carried out in international waters from the Atlantic to the Indian Ocean with the agreements signed to evaluate the capacity of Turkish fishermen. Our fishermen catch approximately 1 million tonnes of fish, which is at least 3 times the amount of fish caught in the country’s waters, in international waters and oceans,” he concluded…
