Farmers in search of alternative products to the world-famous Seedless Sultaniye Grape increased olive production even more this year. While vineyard areas were dismantled and olives were planted in Alaşehir, it was reported that olive areas exceeded 40 thousand decares. Agricultural Engineer Dündar Yalçın, consultant of Alaşehir Chamber of Agriculture, said that the planting of olive saplings has accelerated even more, especially this year due to the mildew disease in vineyards.
Olive production in Alaşehir district of Manisa, the capital of grapes, is growing every year. Farmers in search of alternative products to the world-famous Seedless Sultaniye Grape have turned to olive production in recent years. Lower input costs such as labour, pesticides and fertilisers compared to grapes have led farmers to olive production. Olive production, which soared rapidly due to lower costs, exceeded 40 thousand decares in the district.
