With government supports, Malatya’s Doğanşehir, Darende and Arguvan districts aim to reach 16,000 tonnes of trout production in 66 facilities by the end of the year. Trout facilities are a significant source of income for the regional economy.

Trout raised in these facilities are both a significant source of income for the economy and a significant factor in the development of fisheries in the region.
The number of facilities, which stood at 48 last year, has increased to 60 this year thanks to the support provided. This number is expected to reach 66 by the end of the year.
Year-end target: 66 facilities
Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Osman Akar told an Anadolu Agency (AA) reporter that the Malatya province is renowned for its trout production.
Akar noted that production is carried out in dams and land facilities throughout the province, saying, “Our number of trout production facilities has surged from 48 in 2024 to 60. Thirty-three of these are land facilities and 27 are located in dam lakes. This year, we have granted preliminary permits to six facilities. By the end of the year, we will be producing at 66 facilities with an annual capacity of 16,000 tonnes.”

Akar noted that production decreased in some facilities due to the earthquakes on February 6, 2023 and stated that they overcame this situation with government support.
Pointing out that the support, which was previously 1 lira per kilogram, has now increased to 1 lira. 80 kuruş, he said, “The support amount has been increased as part of production planning. Our support for aquaculture products has surged, although it varies by category. We are providing grants of 50 percent or more to investors who want to establish aquaculture facilities in dams. We have areas suitable for trout production in our province as well.”
