Indoor ornamental plants grown in geothermal greenhouses in Türkiye’s southeastern province of Şanlıurfa are exported domestically and abroad. With new investments, Şanlıurfa, the land of agriculture, is preparing to become the centre of four-season ornamental plants.
ŞANLIURFA – In Şanlıurfa, one of agriculture centres of Türkiye and GAP (Southeastern Anatolia Project), greenhouse cultivation is becoming widespread day by day. Heat and cold resistant indoor ornamental plants grown in geothermal greenhouses are exported both domestically and abroad.
The agricultural pattern in Şanlıurfa is expanding continuously. Şanlıurfa has made a name for itself with indoor ornamental plants grown in geothermal greenhouses in recent years. In the Karaali region of Harran district, ornamental plants that can survive for four seasons and require little water are grown in greenhouses using geothermal energy.
The 15 types of flowers grown are resistant to both heat and cold and require little water at the same time. Four-season resistant flowers, which are demanded at home and abroad, are in demand. Greenhouse growers, who have difficulty in keeping up with the demand, are making investment preparations for new greenhouse areas. Şanlıurfa is now preparing to become the centre of four-season resistant ornamental plants with new investments.
Flowers grown in geothermally heated greenhouses are meticulously cared for. In fully automated greenhouses, the necessary shading, fertilisation, ventilation, irrigation, heating, cooling and humidification processes are carried out in a controlled manner to ensure the most suitable growing conditions.; 15 types of ornamental plants are grown only in Şanlıurfa and Adana regions due to their climate. In 2023, it was reported that approximately 500 thousand units were grown and sold to different regions, especially the Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia region.
