The quality problem in products should be solved at the producer…

Nurettin Tarakçıoğlu, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Aegean Furniture, Paper and Forestry Products Exporters’ Association, says that in 2023, thyme with 51 million dollars, laurel with 45 million dollars, cumin with 17 million dollars, chilli powder with 14 million dollars, sumac and sage with 7 million dollars are among the products they export the most.

“The solution of the quality problem in the products is vital for the continuity of exports to the whole world, especially to the European Union,” he says.

“The quality problem in the products should be solved at the producer. For a long time, we have been organising meetings and trainings with the Provincial Directorates of Agriculture and Forestry and explaining what needs to be done to eliminate the quality problem in the products caused by weed residues,” he notes.

Analysis prices should be reasonable and support exports…

Pointing out that the Ministry of Agriculture, exporters and producers should cooperate to eliminate the quality problem in the products, he adds, “The supply chain from production to packaging needs to be solved completely. Analysis costs create high costs for exporters. Analysis should be done at market prices. In order to pave the way for exports, analysis prices should be reasonable and support exports.”

“Our exports in the US market continue steadily. There is an intense increase in laurel exports in the Far East and Europe. But there is a quality problem in thyme and sage. Low exchange rates create problems for exporters. Exchange rates should support exports. Labour and energy costs have soared. Freight prices have mobilised and started to rise again. We have difficulty in making costs in an environment where inflation is moving,” he concludes…
