Bingöl honey is on its way to becoming the first honey with a geographical indication in the European Union…

Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz announced that Eastern Anatolia’s province of Bingöl’s honey is on its way to becoming the first honey to receive a geographical indication in the European Union.

Yılmaz appreciated Bingöl University’s work in the field of bees and bee products and stated that they will continue to strengthen the local economy by using the natural resources of the region.

“Bingöl honey is now on its way to becoming the first honey to receive a geographical indication in the European Union. The process has reached a certain stage. This application was published in the European official gazette. Therefore, with the completion of this process, it will be the first honey to receive a geographical indication in the European Union,” he said.

Noting that he believes the contribution of Bingöl honey to the local economy will increase, Yılmaz, added, “From now on beekeeping enterprises, pollen, royal jelly and beeswax production, certified queen bee breeding and bee poison production should be especially focused on in this region.”
