“PACKAGED HONEY EXPORTS WILL HEIGHTEN THE BRAND VALUE OF TURKISH HONEY”

Press release…

Packaged honey consists of 200 million dollars of honey and bee products market which accounts for 500 million dollars in Turkey.

Stating that they have increased their exports by 5 times in the last 8 years, honey exporters said, “Packaging provides added value to the product, reliable food is packaged food. Thus what we want is to reach to a 100 million dollars as of our target by exporting packaged honey.”

Aegean Seafood and Animal Products Exporters’ Association Board Member Nedim Kalpaklıoğlu said that Turkey ranks second in the world after China in terms of honey production.

Indicating that 90 percent of pine honey production across the world is made in Turkey, Kalpaklıoğlu explained, “As Aegean Exporters’ Associations, we are preparing a documentary about the benefits of Turkish pine honey. We need to boost the added value of pine honey exports by focusing on food safety and hygiene. Pine honey constitutes 90 percent of our extracted honey exports to Europe.”

Kalpaklıoğlu thinks that the commercialization of Turkish pine honey to the European market and target markets with added value could be economically exported and packaged.

“Packaging describes the brand and quality of a product. Packaged honey exports will heighten the brand value of our exports and as a major honey producer in the world, Turkey will gain an important position in export market. Our honey exports reached to 25 million dollars in 2019 while it was only 5 million dollars in 2011. Turkey is developing with each passing day in terms of beekeeping with its efficient and rich flora,” Kalpaklıoğlu added.

Honey exports soared in the first 5 months…

“Last year, we sent 5 548 tons of honey to 45 countries. In addition to honey, we also aim to increase the production of value-added bee products such as pollen, royal jelly, propolis and bee bread. Honey exports increased by 2.5 percent in the first 5 months and reached 10 million 725 thousand dollars. Honey exports from the Aegean Region increased by 2 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 5 million 778 thousand dollars. Most exports were made to Germany and the USA, the biggest honey importers in the world,” Kalpaklıoğlu concluded…
