Foreign Trade Assessment Presentation for the Machinery Sector (January–September 2026)…

Export registration figures for the machinery sector for the January–September 2026 period, along with actual foreign trade data for the January–August period, have been released.

According to the latest data, the “Tractors, agricultural and forestry machinery” category has outperformed the broader machinery sector, maintaining both export growth and a foreign trade surplus.

An assessment note on agricultural machinery, prepared based on these reports, is provided below:

  1. Export Performance and Growth Figures (January–September 2026 – Exporters’ Association Records)

Growth in Value: In the first nine months of the year, exports of tractors, agricultural and forestry machinery surged by 15.1 percent compared to the same period last year, reaching 1.05 billion dollars. During the same period, total exports for the machinery sector grew by 1.5 percent to 18.25 billion dollars; this indicates that the agricultural machinery category has significantly outperformed the sector as a whole.

Volume and Unit Value: The export volume rose by 7.7 percent to 171,000 tonnes, while the average export unit value increased from 5.8/kg dollars to 6.1/kg dollars. Consequently, the growth in exports was driven by both an increase in volume and a rise in the average unit value of the exported products.

Sectoral Ranking: Tractors, agricultural machinery and forestry machinery ranked as the 6th largest product group in the machinery sector in terms of export value, reaching 1.05 billion dollars.

  1. Foreign Trade Balance and Coverage Ratio (January–August 2026 – TurkStat Actual Foreign Trade Data)

Exports and Imports: In the first eight months of the year, exports of tractors, agricultural machinery and forestry machinery soared by 12.9 percent compared to the same period last year, reaching 1.059 billion dollars, while imports declined by 37.1 percent to 476 million dollars.

Export-to-Import Coverage Ratio: The export-to-import coverage ratio rose to 222.5 percent, up from 124 percent in the same period last year. Consequently, exports have more than doubled the value of imports.

Foreign Trade Surplus: The sector’s foreign trade surplus grew from approximately 181 million dollars in the same period last year to 583 million dollars. This improvement in the foreign trade balance was driven by both a spike in exports and a significant decline in imports.

Comparison with the Broader Machinery Sector: During the same period, the machinery sector’s total actual exports increased by 0.4 percent, while imports rose by 3.2 percent, resulting in a foreign trade deficit of approximately 12.3 billion dollars. Within this landscape, the category of tractors, agricultural machinery and forestry machinery continued to make a positive contribution to the sector’s foreign trade balance, posting a surplus of 583 million dollars…
