Organic wastes turn into compost products in Mersin…

Türkiye’s eastern Mediterranean province of Mersin’ Metropolitan Municipality started compost production from organic waste with a zero waste approach. Every day, compost products are produced from approximately 1.5-2 tonnes of organic waste from the fruit and vegetable market.

Approximately 100 cubic metres of compost has been produced since the beginning of the year in the facility, where piles of fruit, vegetables, sawdust, tea and coffee pulp, pruning and slaughterhouse waste are created. The Metropolitan Municipality plans to provide the compost product, which will be used in the production, planting and planting activities of the Metropolitan Municipality, to support citizens engaged in agricultural production and related cooperatives in the future.

Mersin Metropolitan Municipality broke new ground and started compost (organic fertiliser) production from organic waste. With a zero-waste approach, the Metropolitan Municipality will use the compost products obtained within the scope of the project, which was implemented with the slogan “We do not waste, we compost”, in the production and planting of flowers in the refuges, parks and gardens…
