Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı stated that the sufficiency rate in red meat is 95 percent and that they have started a fattening calf production mobilisation in order to meet the remaining 5 percent with domestic facilities, and called on the private sector to establish breeding meat enterprises.
‘We are starting a mobilisation for red meat’
Minister of Agriculture Yumaklı highlighted that the sufficiency rate for red meat is 95 percent and said, “In order to meet the remaining 5 percent with domestic means, we are starting the mobilisation for the production of fattening calves. In this context, we kicked off breeding meat cattle in Iğdır and Ceylanpınar agricultural enterprises. Our Iğdır enterprise will start working at full capacity next month. We expect the Ceylanpınar enterprise to operate at full capacity until June 2025. Our first aim in these two enterprises is to reach a capacity of 70 thousand head. For this purpose, we will add the females born from breeding animals to our breeding staff. We will also fatten the males and utilise them in the regulation activities of the Meat and Milk Institution (ESK) during the slaughter period.”
Pointing out that they attach importance to the increase of such enterprises, Yumaklı added, “It is important for our country that you establish 100, 500 or 1000 head breeding meat enterprises within your means. The establishment of such enterprises by our entrepreneurs would be pleasing for us. In this regard, as the Ministry, we have put not only our hands but also our bodies under this work.”
