A geographical indication registration certificate was given to the satsuma-type Gümüldür Tangerine grown in Menderes (a district of İzmir province) by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office (TURKPATENT).
The activities carried out by Menderes Municipality in order to protect the local products of the district, to increase their quality and to brand them, continue at full speed. Within the scope of the studies carried out, a geographical indication certificate was given by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office for Gümüldür Satsuma Tangerine. The document was delivered to Menderes Mayor Mustafa Kayalar.
Producer will win, Menderes will win…
Menderes Mayor Mustafa Kayalar, who noted that Satsuma type Gümüldür Tangerine is among the important products of the district, said, “We continue to protect the abundant products of our fertile soil of Menderes region and offer them to large markets and support our producers. In this context, the attempts we made for our Gümüldür Satsuma Tangerine to obtain a geographical indication certificate yielded results and we were awarded the certificate by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office. The geographical indication document we received for Gümüldür Satsuma Tangerine, which is the best quality mandarin in the world, covers the region from Gümüldür to Selçuk district. The document is of great importance for the branding of the product and the increase in sales opportunities of our producer both in the domestic and foreign markets. With this document, winner will be our producer and Menderes. Wish good luck to our district.”

Stating that they have made the necessary initiatives for the Efemçukuru region Alphonse Grape, Mayor Kayalar added, “Our next target is the alphonse grape, which is the unique flavour of our Efemçukuru. We made the necessary applications for this product. We will also obtain the geographical indication registration certificate of Efemçukuru Grape. We will continue to protect the blessings that these lands offer us.”
