İbrahim Sağlam, Samsun Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry, reported that 8 thousand 771 tonnes of Turkish salmon were produced in Samsun region in 2023.
Sağlam stated that they support the growth of the aquaculture sector and important supports are provided.
In his written statement, Sağlam pointed out that the number of aquaculture companies in the province has increased.
Stating that there are 36 companies in Samsun that are engaged in aquaculture and have aquaculture certificates, Sağlam said, “An important part of aquaculture production is made up of our facilities that produce in the Black Sea off the Derbent Dam Lake and Yakakent. The production capacity in Samsun, which was 12 thousand 378 tonnes in 2022, soared in 2023 and reached to 13 thousand 971 tonnes. Some of the trout grown in Derbent Dam Lake are consumed in the domestic market and a large part of them are transported live to the facilities in the Black Sea when they reach an average weight of 500-600 grams and they are fed and grown in the sea until they reach a weight of 4 kilograms.”
