HIGH DEMAND FOR TURKISH SALMON!

The International Competitiveness Improvement (UR-GE) Project for the development of fisheries exports prepared by the Eastern Black Sea Exporters’ Association (DKİB) and submitted to the approval of the Ministry of Trade; It was accepted by the Ministry and included in the scope of support.

There are 22 companies in the project prepared for aquaculture companies operating in the Eastern Black Sea Region. With the project, activities that will increase the export share of participating companies in existing markets and enable them to open up to alternative markets will be supported. During the project implementation period, which will last for a total of 3 years, activities such as preparing companies for export, receiving training and consultancy in the areas they need, organizing trade delegation and procurement committee programmes, including company and fair visits abroad and bilateral business meetings, will be supported.

Ahmet Hamdi Gürdoğan, Deputy Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Eastern Black Sea Exporters’ Association, made evaluations at the project opening meeting held with the participation of the sectoral companies and representatives of the institutions/organizations in the aquaculture sector.

Gürdoğan said, “The aquaculture sector has shown a rapid development in the Eastern Black Sea Region in recent years, especially Rainbow Trout (Black Sea Salmon), which is grown in fresh water up to a certain stage in the region and then transferred to cages established in the seas and grown here up to 3 Kg, is in great demand from abroad due to its quality and taste.”

“In the first 7 months of 2021, the export of Black Sea Salmon reached to 16,250 tonnes and provided 90 million 316 thousand 827 dollars as foreign currency. So Black Sea Salmon exports increased by 385 percent in quantity and 474 percent in value compared to the previous year,” Gürdoğan added…
