Food Banking transforms society!

At this year’s Food Banking Summit organised by TIDER with the theme ‘Be a Part of the Fight Against Waste’, a call was made to ‘support the fight against waste’. The common call of the participants was ‘Food banking is not only meeting needs, but also transforming society. With scientific, systematic and sustainable approaches, it is possible to prevent waste and ensure social justice’.

Hande Tibuk

The Food Banking Summit, hosted by the Basic Needs Association (TIDER) for the fifth time this year, was held with the theme ‘Be a Part of the Fight Against Waste’.

Celebrating its 15th anniversary and aiming to transform social solidarity from an ‘aid’ model to a structure that produces permanent solutions, the summit organised by TIDER brought together representatives from the public, private sector, academia and civil society.

‘Not aid, but systematic solution!’

Delivering the opening speech of the summit, Hande Tibuk, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of TIDER, referred to the services provided by the association at 83 points in 39 provinces and said, ‘TIDER, which has been continuing to carry out sustainable projects to combat waste and poverty without deviating from its goal for 15 years, has spread food banking all over the country.’

Emphasising that the structure they have developed through Support Market and Support HR, which is an employment model, both supports social justice and feeds economic development, Tibuk drew attention to the modern aid approach by saying, ‘By reaching more than 1 million people in need through food banks that are members of the TIDER Food Banking Network, we not only provide food support, but also offer inclusive support to those in need through many projects, especially employment projects.’
