Press release…
Ferhat Gürüz, Chair of the Mediterranean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association, announced that tangerine export value surged dramatically by 220 percent!

Evaluating the exports of the sector in April according to product groups, Gürüz said, “The group with the highest exports in the said period was fresh vegetables, which generated 125.1 million dollars with an increase of 20 percent. In this item, we achieved significant increases especially in tomatoes, peppers and zucchini on a value basis. Tomatoes remained at the top among all products with 57.8 million dollars, while peppers rose to second place with 33.4 million dollars. Zucchini reached a value of 11.8 million dollars. The fresh fruit group decreased in both quantity and value and remained at 36.1 million kilograms and 46 million dollars. The sharp decline in exports of products such as apples, strawberries and peaches was effective in this decline.”
“However, the spike in unit prices of some fruits such as dates and plums pointed to a quality and value-added orientation in this group as well. Despite a 29 percent decrease in quantity, the citrus group exported 62.1 million dollars with a 36 percent spike in value. The value-based leap in lemon and mandarin exports played a leading role in this increase,” Gürüz noted.
Pointing out thar especially the export value of tangerine surged at a striking rate of 220 percent, Gürüz added, “While Iraq and Russia continued to be the biggest markets in citrus, the increases in European countries such as Poland and Serbia were also remarkable.”
