Press release…
3 September 2025, Ankara – Türkiye continues to advance digital transformation in rural areas through the FAO Digital Villages Initiative (DVI), implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. This collaboration illustrates how digital solutions and partnerships can empower rural women, strengthen cooperatives, and unlock new income-generating opportunities in Türkiye’s rural areas.
About the Digital Villages Initiative
The FAO Digital Villages Initiative (DVI) seeks to transform villages across Europe and Central Asia into smarter, greener, and digitally connected hubs. By introducing innovative technologies and expanding access to digital services, the initiative supports agricultural productivity, leverages local strengths, and improves living standards in rural communities.

As part of this effort, FAO supported the Boyalı Fengere Women’s Agricultural Development Cooperative, based in Boyalı village near Ankara, to strengthen its participation in digital markets. Specializing in textile and weaving products made from Ankara’s renowned mohair goat wool, the cooperative had already joined FAO Türkiye’s e-commerce platform hepyerinden.com.
Through DVI, the cooperative has become one of the several women-led groups able to benefit from FAO-supported Hep Yerinden platform, enabling them to sell their unique products online and reach wider markets.
To build on this achievement, FAO and Türkiye İş Bank organized a one-day training on 28 August 2025 to introduce cooperative members to Pazarama, the Bank’s digital marketplace. All items listed by the cooperative on Pazarama will also appear on Hep Yerinden, providing greater visibility and expanded sales opportunities.
During the training, cooperative members learned how to register as sellers, create product listings, and manage online sales effectively. Interactive sessions allowed participants to exchange ideas and explore new ways of expanding their market reach.
This collaboration illustrates how digital solutions and partnerships can empower rural women, strengthen cooperatives, and unlock new income-generating opportunities in Türkiye’s rural areas.
