The Turkish olive sector organised a ‘Sectoral Trade Delegation’ to ramp up its olive oil and table olive exports to the United States of America, the largest consumer after the European Union with an annual consumption of 370 thousand tonnes of olive oil and 185 thousand tonnes of table olives.

The ‘Sectoral Trade Delegation’ organised by the Aegean Olive and Olive Oil Exporters’ Association (EZZIB) was attended by 12 leading companies from the Turkish table olive and olive oil sector. The Turkish olive sector aims for a 10 percent share in the US market.
The EZZIB delegation, which started its US programme with a visit to the Greater Irnive Chamber of Commerce, visited Costco, Trader Joe’s, Sporuts Farmers Market, Ralph’s Supermarket and Gelson’s Supermarket, which trade in wholesale and retail olive and olive oil.
Emre Uygun, chair of the Aegean Olive and Olive Oil Exporters‘ Association, informed that they visited the Natural Products Expo West Fair, which is one of the largest natural and organic food fairs in the USA and whose Turkish National Participation Organisation was carried out by the Aegean Exporters’ Association (EIB) and stated that they made investigations on olive and olive oil sector trends and the demand for natural foods in the USA.

Targeting 10 percent share in the US market…
Underlining that Türkiye has invested heavily in the olive sector in the last 20 years, EZZIB Chair Emre Uygun said, “Our table olive yield has reached 750 thousand tonnes and we have become the first in the world. As for our olive oil yield; we have reached a yield of 475 thousand tonnes. In order for the boost in table olive and olive oil yield to turn into added value, we need to focus on marketing. The USA is one of the most important markets in this sense.”
“Türkiye exported 199.5 million dollars worth of olive oil and 16 million dollars worth of table olives to the United States in the 2023/24 season. We aim to get a 10 percent share of the US market, whose annual olive and olive oil imports reach 4 billion dollars,” Uygun added…
