It was announced that brown eggs will no longer be sold on supermarket shelves in Germany. Henner Schönecke, Chair of the Federal Association of German Egg Producers, stated that it will become increasingly difficult to find brown eggs in supermarkets in the next 5 years. The reason for this was the increase in the production costs of brown eggs.

In recent years, the increase in egg prices in Germany has brought along discussions. While about 30 percent of the eggs sold in supermarkets in the country are brown, this ratio will soon begin to change.
