BIROL CELEP: WE CAN BOOST WINE PRODUCTION

Two-thirds of the 2022/23 season has been left behind in seedless raisins, where Türkiye is the world leader in production and export. Türkiye’s raisin export was 171 thousand tonnes with a flat course compared to the same period of the 2021/22 season, while the foreign exchange yield was 290 million dollars with a loss of 6 percent.

“Wine industry is growing”

Pointing out that the advantage of the country’s geography in sultani seedless grapes is not found anywhere else in the world, Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM) Board Member Birol Celep underlined that the grape industry in Türkiye will continue for many years.

Referring to the need for product diversity in the grape sector, Celep said, “The wine industry is a growing and key sector. We should think about how the richness of this geography can be translated into the wine industry. We should shape the sector by including the Ministry of Trade and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.”

“Ministries and other stakeholders should be involved in contract agriculture and basin-based production. Proper planning must be done. Production planning should be shaped by changing climates. Everyone should take responsibility for the Manisa region. There are many varieties that can be produced with less water in the winery,” he added…
