Ali Çandır: We are working to bring Antalya’s cut flowers to more markets

Antalya Commodity Exchange (ATB) continues its efforts to ramp up agricultural production and improve trade and exports.

The ATB delegation, which had previously visited Colombia to develop the cut flower market of Antalya, Türkiye’s leading region in cut flowers, also made contacts for the development of trade in the United Kingdom.

Within the scope of the Antalya Commodity Exchange Cut Flower Export Development Project, the delegation led by ATB Chairman Ali Çandır travelled to the UK. The delegation, which made contacts in London, visited cut flower wholesaler companies in New Covent Garden and received information about the market and the market from Tommy Leighton, marketing and communication officer of the flower market.

The members of the delegation met with cut flower importer companies at the B2B meeting and received information about the UK cut flower sector and trade from Gözde İnaneri Bakıcı, Commercial Counsellor of the Republic of Türkiye in London. At the meeting, UK ornamental plants expert Karen Barnes made a presentation on ornamental plants and cut flower trade and the latest trends. ATB delegation also visited Moyses Stevens Battersea Florist and Flower School and received information. Ali Çandır, together with the Development of International Competitiveness Development Programme delegation, also made contacts in Belfast, the capital of Northern Ireland. The delegation visited the facilities of cut flower wholesaler Peake Blooms, Orchard Flowers and KFW Group companies and examined the products sold in Sainsbury’s, Tesco and M&S markets.

ATB Chairman Ali Çandır noted that they are working to bring the products of Antalya province, which grows about half of the cut flowers, to more markets.

Stating that they took their members to the UK within the scope of the Supporting the Development of International Competitiveness (URGE) project to develop the cut flower market as a stock exchange, Çandır highlighted that the UK delegation held bilateral meetings with the representatives of cut flower companies in the region at B2B meetings, evaluated the possibilities of commercial cooperation and important negotiations were held in the commercial field…
