Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı said that citrus production will decrease compared to last year, but the important thing is to develop the agricultural industry.
Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı was in Eastern Mediterranean province of Hatay to attend some programmes and make inspections.
Stating that oranges, tangerines, grapefruits and lemons will be important products this year, Minister Yumaklı said, “Last year, citrus harvest was close to 8 million tonnes. This year, we anticipate that the figure will be slightly lower.”
Pointing out that they started to implement the measures and decisions taken regarding citrus products Yumaklı added, “The issue of their industry is extremely important rather than the production of crops. Today, of course, the products reach the hands and shelves of consumers, especially in European countries, in a very clean and fresh way, but the agricultural industry is also extremely important. Therefore, we will hopefully ensure that many different investments are made in this region, especially in specialised organised industrial zones based on agriculture.”
