Turkey exported 1.9 billion dollars worth of cereals, pulses, oilseeds and their products in the January-February period.

According to a statement made by the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM), sunflower oil ranked first in exports in the cereals, pulses, oilseeds and their products sector in the first two months of the year, with 191.8 million dollars in foreign sales. Chocolate and cocoa-based products generated 170.3 million dollars in revenue, while biscuit, wafer and pasta exports exceeded 150 million dollars.
Ahmet Tiryakioğlu, Chairman of the Cereals, Pulses, Oilseeds and Products Sector Board of the Turkish Exporters’ Assembly (TİM), stated that during this period, when developments abroad are intensifying their impact on international trade, the sector’s attention is focused on tensions in the Middle East.

Tiryakioğlu said that recent developments in the region related to Iran have created a new area of uncertainty affecting global food trade not only politically but also through energy and logistics channels.
“Increasing security risks around the Strait of Hormuz and occasional disruptions in commercial shipping traffic point to a critical bottleneck for global commodity transportation. Tensions in this corridor, through which approximately 20 million barrels of crude oil pass daily, accounting for about 20 percent of global consumption, can also be reflected in agricultural and food markets through energy prices.”
Tiryakioğlu also noted that trade with Iran is an important issue for exporting companies to maintain their competitiveness in the Middle East, adding that Iran, which imports approximately 4-5 billion dollars worth of cereals, pulses, oilseeds and their products annually, is also an important market for Türkiye…
