WORLD PASTA DAY 2025: FROM TRADITION TO FUTURE
October 24–26, 2025 | Istanbul
Pasta is an indispensable delight in global cuisine, a shared cultural symbol, and a source of joy at every table. Celebrated each year on October 25 in a different country, World Pasta Day offers a unique opportunity to highlight the love, commitment, and culinary heritage associated with this timeless food and to share its world of health, taste, and variety.

In 2025, this meaningful celebration will take place in Istanbul from October 24 to 26, hosted by the Associaton of Turkish Pasta Manufacturers (TMSD) and the Pasta Manufacturers and Industrialists Association (MÜSAD). With the theme “From Tradition to Future,” World Pasta Day will become a global gathering that carries the abundance of the past into the promise of the future.
Why “From Tradition to Future”?
This theme symbolizes the merging of the historical journey of durum wheat and pasta—originating from the ancient lands of Anatolia—with today’s understanding of sustainable and healthy nutrition. Türkiye is not only one of the world’s leading producers of durum wheat, but also the gene center and homeland of this essential crop. This journey, which began nearly 10,000 years ago in Karacadağ overlooking the regions of Diyarbakır, Mardin, and Şanlıurfa, plays a fundamental role in making pasta a universal food today.
Origins and Türkiye’s Global Role
Aykut Göymen, Chair of the TMSD, stated that the idea of celebrating World Pasta Day was first proposed by the Turkish Pasta Manufacturers during the World Pasta Industry meeting held in Rome in 1995. “At the second meeting, held in the United States in 1997, it was officially decided that October 25 would be celebrated as ‘World Pasta Day,'” Göymen said.

The first World Pasta Day was celebrated in 1998 in Naples, Italy, and since then, it has been celebrated every year in a different country under the coordination of the International Pasta Organization (IPO).
Highlighting that Türkiye has proudly hosted this significant event twice before, in 2008 and 2013, Göymen noted, “With its industry expertise, production capacity and strong cultural heritage, Türkiye has played a pivotal role in promoting pasta worldwide.”
“In 2025, the Turkish Pasta Industry will have the honour and pride of hosting World Pasta Day in Istanbul for the third time,” Göymen added.
A Food that Nourishes Bodies and Cultures
Pasta is not only delicious and satisfying, but also a sustainable food with a low glycemic index, rich in essential vitamins and minerals, a unifying element across different cultures and traditions. The Scientific Consensus Statement, endorsed by global health and nutrition experts, emphasizes pasta’s rightful place in a healthy diet while challenging misconceptions about carbohydrates.
