LOCAL BREEDS ARE NUMBER ONE IN PRODUCTION: ‘AS LONG AS THEY ARE PRODUCED’
Zeliha Öztürk, Chairwoman of the Antalya Sheep and Goat Breeders’ Association, said that they have no problems with added value in ovine breeding.
Stating that the biggest problem in animal husbandry is the need for manpower and that humane conditions should be offered to producers who breed in rural areas without electricity and water, Zeliha Öztürk, Chairwoman of the Antalya Sheep and Goat Breeders’ Association, said: ’We have no problems with added value in ovine breeding. Our market share is quite high because we feed the ovine species registered in the Teke region, which includes Antalya, Burdur, Isparta and Muğla regions, in the natural environment, in the pastures of the Taurus Mountains.”
Pointing out that especially with the transition to the crisis, domestic breeds have become the number one in milk production, she noted, “Antalya region seems to be the first province in meeting the need for domestic breeding in Türkiye. In our Southeast and Eastern regions, sheep and sheep milk are very valuable. But only if it is produced.”
“In other words, we have quality milk, but we have difficulty in utilising this milk due to employment problems. We have a manpower problem. This is felt more keenly in animal husbandry, which is a labour-intensive sector. These people are trying to live without infrastructure services, they continue this as a culture. We want to explain this,” she added…
