YUMAKLI: TAKE NO NOTICE OF SPECULATIONS IN OLIVE OIL

Olive oil statement from Minister Yumaklı: Do not take into account the speculations

Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı stated that olive oil production will be around 180 thousand tonnes this year and said, “Türkiye’s olive oil consumption is around 160 thousand to 180 thousand tonnes. In other words, even if we think that we only produce this year, it is enough for our consumption. Therefore, I especially ask our citizens not to take into account the speculations made over olives.”

İbrahim Yumaklı

Reminding that the highest harvest in the history of the Republic was made last year, Yumaklı explained, “Approximately 440 thousand tonnes of olive oil was produced from this harvest. This year we will have around 180 thousand tonnes of olive oil production. Because, as you know, one year is a year of existence and one year is a year of non-existence. This year we will have a production of 180 thousand tonnes. Türkiye’s olive oil consumption is around 160 thousand to 180 thousand tonnes. In other words, our production is sufficient for our consumption even if we think that we produce only this year.”

“Therefore, I would like to ask our citizens and our nation not to pay attention to the speculations made over olives. Of course, when such issues come to the agenda, we also see that everyone applies some unique methods in order to use it, let’s say those with bad intentions,” Yumaklı warned.

“Inspections will continue intensively”

Stating that more than 3,500 inspections have been carried out since 27 November against the sale of fake olive oil and the necessary sanctions have been imposed on those detected, Yumaklı added, “Our inspections will continue very intensively, we will not have any tolerance in any way related to our people’s access to reliable food. Especially in a product that we are very strong in the whole world, it is indeed extremely sad for our country and our producers. At a time when there is a problem with olive production all over the world, the fact that we have produced enough products for ourselves and that we have stocks that have been carried over since last year is already a guarantee that our country will definitely not have any problems with olive oil.”
