Veysel Memiş: We exported confectionery products the most in February

Press release…

Veysel Memiş, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Mediterranean Cereals, Pulses, Oilseeds and Products Exporters’ Association (AHBİB), announced that they had achieved exports worth 140.8 million dollars in February.

“We achieved the highest exports in bakery products; Syria stood out as the leading destination by country”

Veysel Memiş, assessing AHBİB’s February exports by product group, emphasised that processed food products continue to be a key balancing factor in exports.

“We clearly see the advantage that product diversity brings to our sector’s exports. Confectionery products were the product group with the highest exports in February, amounting to 27.4 million dollars and accounting for 20 percent of the total. Sweet biscuits and wafers, meanwhile, accounted for approximately 8 million dollars in exports, representing 6 percent of our total exports. In legume products, the impact of global price movements and shifts in demand is being felt. In February, our pulses exports amounted to 26.7 million dollars, marking a 23 percent decline compared to the same period last year,” he said.

Notably, there were decreases in both volume and value for peas and certain other pulses. In contrast, red lentils continued to be one of the sector’s strongest products, with exports of 19.6 million dollars. We achieved a strong performance in the vegetable oil group. Exports in this sector have become a key growth area for the industry. Our oilseed exports rose by 16 percent to reach 20.9 million dollars. Increased demand, particularly for groundnuts and sunflower seeds, has strengthened the share of this product group within our total exports,” he noted.

Pointing out that according to AHBİB’s country-specific export data for February, the highest volume of exports was to neighbouring countries, he added, “Regional markets retain their strategic importance for the sector. In February, we exported the most to Syria, amounting to 14.5 million dollars and accounting for 11 percent of the total. Iraq followed with 11.9 million dollars and a 9 percent share. Sudan ranked third with exports worth 8.7 million dollars, whilst Germany holds a significant position in the European market with exports valued at 6.9 million dollars.”
