The value-added product of fresh fruit group, strawberry as fresh, frozen or dried form was exported to 29 countries and broke a record 29 of in the first quarter of 2021.
It increased by 333 percent and reached to 4 million 993 thousand 307 dollars from 993 thousand dollars in the first quarter of this year.
Pointing out that the Aegean Region has an important place in strawberry production and exports, and especially in Aydın province strawberry production has increased significantly in recent years, Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association Chairperson Hayrettin Uçak said that they achieved 160 percent increase in strawberry exports in the Aegean Region in January-March 2021.
Hayrettin Uçak said, “While we exported strawberries to 15 countries in the same period of 2020, now we have increased the number of exported countries to 29. In 2020, we obtained an income of 24 million 590 thousand dollars in exchange for 25 thousand 600 tonnes of fresh strawberries. Nearly 60 percent of the exports were made to Russia, followed by Romania, Iraq and Georgia. In particular, we experienced a rise of 188 percent in strawberry exports to Romania compared to 2019. Our goal for 2021 is to raise our exports to 40 million dollars.”
Average unit price of dried strawberries is over 4 dollars…
Mentioning that strawberries are extensively exported both as fresh, frozen and dried, Hayrettin Uçak added, “In 2020, we exported 22,620 tonnes of frozen strawberries and earned 45 million 423 thousand dollars of foreign currency to our country. The top four countries in our frozen strawberry exports are the USA, Germany, Canada and the UK. At the same time, we export the dried and re-sweetened strawberries abroad with high added value. In 2020, our dried strawberry exports amounted to 8 million 327 thousand dollars. The average unit price of dried strawberries was over 4 dollars. The most exported countries are the USA and the UK.”
