The initial shipment date for the export of the 2026 crop of dried figs—often referred to as the “fruit of paradise”—has been set for Monday, September 28, 2026.
Yusuf Gabay, Chair of the Aegean Dried Fruits and Products Exporters’ Association, stated that they have been working intensively to enhance quality and food safety standards for dried figs ahead of the new season.
Noting that they distributed portable UV hand lamps to production regions via local headmen—with the aim of setting an example for growers and enabling the identification and removal of aflatoxin-contaminated figs from drying racks—Gabay said, “We also distributed drying strays and informational brochures for growers, coordinated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, to ensure a healthy harvest and drying process. We are putting in great effort to ensure a successful season for dried figs, one of Türkiye’s most prestigious products.”
Reporting that Türkiye generated 343 million dollars in foreign currency revenue by exporting 55,000 tonnes of the 2025 dried fig crop between October 15, 2025 and September 8, 2026, Gabay added, “We believe we will exceed the 350 million dollar mark by the end of the season. For the 2026–27 season, we aim to surpass 60,000 tonnes in dried fig exports.”
