The cereals, pulses, oilseeds and processed products sector, which continues to lead with a 29.9 per cent share of Southeastern Anatolia’s total exports, recorded exports of 552.8 million dollars in January–February.

Compared to the same period last year, cereal sector exports in the region fell by 7 per cent in volume and 5.2 per cent in value. Over the two-month period, approximately 187,000 tonnes of pasta, 127,000 tonnes of wheat flour and 68,000 tonnes of sunflower oil were exported. Exports of sunflower oil, the product generating the highest revenue, rose by 14.1 per cent to reach 108.1 million dollars, whilst exports of pasta, which ranked second, rose by 11.7 per cent to 103 million dollars. During this period, when the average export unit price rose by 1.9 per cent, exports to the Middle East fell by 21.4 per cent to 231 million dollars.
Celal Kadooğlu, Chair of the Southeastern Anatolia Cereals, Pulses, Oilseeds and Products Exporters’ Association, announced that the sector has recently faced simultaneous pressures regarding financing, logistics and competition and that developments in the region have complicated trade flows.
“From collection processes in Iraq to high taxes imposed in Syria, from rising transport costs due to the conflict in the Gulf to the impact of the Russia-Ukraine war on supply chains, numerous factors are exerting simultaneous pressure on the sector,” he said…
