Oregano, Laurel and Sage sector representatives came together…
Organized in cooperation with İzmir Commodity Exchange and Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry Aegean Agricultural Research Institute (ETAE), “Oregano, Laurel and Sage Agriculture and Markets Evaluation Meeting” was held on Friday, June 24.
It was held in the Conference Hall of the Aegean Agricultural Research Institute Directorate and moderated by İzmir Commodity Exchange Honorary Member Dr. Tayfur Akın. Deputy General Director of Plant Production Ercan Türktemel, Head of Non-Wood Services and Products Department Özgür Balcı, İzmir Commodity Exchange Council Members Dr. Hüseyin Akdemir and Celil Önder Türer, representatives of relevant public institutions, sector representatives and academicians attended.
The opening speech of the meeting was made by İzmir Commodity Exchange Council Member Dr. Hüseyin Akdemir and the Director of the Aegean Agricultural Research Institute of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Dr. Ali Peksüslü.
In his speech, Dr. Hüseyin Akdemir stated that oregano, laurel and sage, whose usage and trade volume are increasing all over the world, are important crops for our country and gave concrete examples of the problems faced by manufacturers and industrialists in the field.
Dr. Ali Peksüslü gave information about the works of the Aegean Agricultural Research Institute in the field of medicinal and aromatic plants.
Celil Önder Türer, Member of the Assembly of İzmir Commodity Exchange, share the information about the country’s exports in this field and talked about the latest developments in South American countries, which are among Turkey’s competitors in oregano.
Ercan Türktemel, Deputy General Director of Plant Production and Özgür Balcı, Head of Non-Wood Services and Products Department, explained that they attach great importance to the demands coming from the sector and that they are ready to cooperate in the solution of problems, in their speeches in which they conveyed the work of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry in oregano, laurel and sage.
In the evaluations made at the end of the meeting, among the issues that all participants agreed on were quality production, increasing the varieties suitable for the demands of the markets, increasing the R&D studies to be carried out on the development of value-added products, supporting the producers and intensifying the training activities in this field.
