Saffet Kalyoncu: In the first two months of 2024, fresh fruit and vegetable exports made to 27 countries from Black Sea region

Press release…

In the first 2 months of 2024, 32 million 347 thousand 502 dollars of fresh fruit and vegetable exports were made to 27 countries from the Eastern Black Sea Region for 68 thousand 987 tonnes.

While the first 3 countries with the highest exports were the Russian Federation, Georgia and Germany, 57 percent of the total exports were made to the Russian Federation alone.

Saffet Kalyoncu, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Eastern Black Sea Exporters Association (DKİB), said that fresh fruit and vegetable exports started the new year with pain.

He stated that due to the high rate of hikes in input prices and labour wages depending on the inflation rates on the side of Türkiye, the competitiveness of the exporter weakened and in many countries, the markets started to be taken over by rival countries due to the inability to offer competitive prices even to our traditional customers.

“In addition to all these cost increases, the spike of over one hundred percent in the revolving fund and analysis fees paid for the permits obtained from public institutions in our country, the fact that the relevant Ministries should check the products before the harvest at the producer, while demanding all the responsibility from the exporter who buys the product and brings it to the export stage, causes great victimisation of the exporter and has negative reflections on exports,” Kalyoncu said.

“The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry should put an end to such practices that victimise exporters and we demand that the control should be carried out in the fields, greenhouses and gardens during the harvesting phase,” Kalyoncu added…
